Team Northumbria had an outstanding weekend, consolidating top spots in both the men's and women's Super 8s. Playing against their nearest rivals both the men and women won their matches convincingly, establishing a clear gap at the top of both tables which opponents will find hard to close. London Polonia were the visitors to Sport Central on Saturday and it was soon clear that they were unable to match the home team for power and control, although they did manage to win the third set after looking down and out when Northumbria took their foot off the pedal. This turned out to be the only set that Northumbria conceded all weekend with the women inflincting overwhelming 3-0 defeats on both their London-based opponents. Malory Eagles were the visitors on Sunday and, after winning in Sheffield the previous day, they began confidently to make the home team work to take the opening set by just 2 points but they ran out of steam and couldn't stop the onslaught.
